AFGHAN TALIBAN AND ITS RISE
First of all, we will
discuss, who are Afghan Taliban?
The word Taliban has
been derived from Arabic language, and its meaning is Talib or Students or
Seekers. Basically Taliban was a group of students mostly from Afghanistan`s
Pashtun Tribe. There is a lot of History behind the making of Taliban. In
short, Taliban was a group of Students with extreme fundamentalistic Islamic
Ideology. Initially there we 50 such students who laid the foundation of
Taliban in 1994 under the leadership of Mullah Mohammad Omar. Mullah Mohammad
Omar was the first Ameer or Leader of Afghan Taliban.
From 1996 to 2001,
Taliban captured and ruled almost 75-80% of Afghanistan. Under their rule they
implemented strict Sharia laws or Islamic laws. They ruled the country till
December 2001, their ruled ended with the America`s invasion in Afghanistan in
December 2001. Now it was the time when US and its allied countries invaded
Afghanistan, and then there started the NATO`s WAR ON TERROR. The immediate
goal or mission of War On Terror was to overthrow Taliban Government and to
establish Democratic Government in Afghanistan. NATO`s another major goal was
to dismantle Al-Qaeda and shatter safe shelter of Osama Bin Laden. At that time
Osama Bin Laden was the Ameer or Leader of Al-Qaeda.
After NATO`s
intervention in Afghanistan Taliban`s govt. was dismantled but Taliban
effectively used the topography of Afghanistan and used Mountains as their new
shelters, and then there begins Guerrilla Warfare between Afghan Taliban and
NATO forces.
This conflict or war
between Afghan Taliban and NATO continued till 29Feb 2020. This was a 20year
and $3 Trillion war of America. In these 20years lots of changes occurred in
Afghanistan. Democratic Government fully backed by US were establish in Afghanistan.
With US support National Army of Afghanistan, equipped by America with Modern
Weapons was created, which is now
called as Afghan National Army. In these 20years Taliban also evolved, they
focused on their economy and military, In the last phase of these 20years they
were fighting with both NATO and Afghan National Army till 29Feb. 2020.
So, now we are in
29Feb 2020.
It was that time when
America decided to end its War On Terror in Afghanistan. Both Afghan Taliban
and America decided to and committed on certain policies and mutually signed an
agreement in Doha Qatar, which is known as Doha Agreement. Doha Agreement was a
peace deal between US and Afghan Taliban. The main aim of this deal was to
bring peace in Afghanistan. As per Doha Agreement, Taliban pledges to end it
support to Al-Qaeda, and assured US that they will not provide safe shelter to
Al-Qaeda, and they will not allow them to operate in Afghanistan. Taliban also
signed that they will negotiate with Afghan Government. US also made certain
commitments, they pledged to reduce their number of forces from 13000 to 8600
by July 2020, and then if Taliban keeps its commitments then there will be
complete withdrawal with in 14 months of Doha Agreement. US also signed and
assured Afghan Taliban to end its Economic sanctions on Taliban by August 27
2020.
Till today Doha
agreement is completely successful on one side- almost whole of the NATO forces
have left Afghanistan. But on the other side Doha deal completely failed, there
happened no peace talks between Afghan Taliban and Afghan Government.
Now US had left
Afghanistan and Afghan Taliban have captured almost entire Afghanistan and is
strongly present there. They have established their government a kind of Islamic government called as Caliphate(Khilafath)
Afghan Taliban have brought a shift in their strategy regarding the entire world and the leading international organizations, Presently they are focusing on their stability.
