India-Pakistan set to renew their rivalry in Asia Cup 2023; continental tournament to take place in September
Arch-rivals India and Pakistan will be up against each other once again in 2023 when they take part in the Asia Cup tournament. The 2023 edition of the premier continental event will take place in the month of September. India is clubbed with Pakistan and a qualifier in one group, whereas defending champions Sri Lanka are pooled with Bangladesh and Afghanistan in another.
After facing each other three times in 2022, India and Pakistan will renew their rivalry once again in 2023 when they line up against each other in the Asia Cup tournament. The Asian Cricket Council (ACC) chairman Jay Shah on Thursday (January 5) released the calendar for 2023 and 2024, in which he confirmed that the upcoming edition will take place in September. The 2023 ODI World Cup will take place in India in the months of October and November, and before that, the top six Asian teams will face each other in the Asia Cup, which this year will be played in ODI format.
Pakistan is scheduled to host the 2023 edition, but there are doubts over the venue because, in 2022, Jay Shah said that India won’t travel to Pakistan for the Asia Cup and the tournament will shift somewhere else. India hasn’t travelled to Pakistan since 2008.
